Teaching Philosophy

Many of the skills that I developed in my training as a clinical psychologist can be called upon to enhance the educational experience of my students.

  • Engaging in teaching practices that have proven effectiveness and utility allows me to maximize the learning potential of my students both during and outside of class sessions.
  • Incorporating technology allows for clear and instant communication, enhanced multi-media lectures, and the ability for students to connect with me, each other, and people all over the world.
  • Recognizing the dialectic balance that exists between the “process” of college (learning) and the “product” of college (a degree) for the modern college students allows me to continuously evolve and reevaluate my curricula.
  • Fostering the acquisition of both skills and knowledge that are generalizable and transferable in multiple contexts is at the center of a liberal arts education and allows my students to develop a sense of mastery that they can take into their lives and careers post graduation.
  • Valuing the inherent worth and potential of all individuals allows me to treat everyone in the UConn community with compassion and respect and fosters honest and true relationships.
